On January 7, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hosted an event commemorating the signing of the Orphan Drug Act by President Ronald Reagan on January 4, 1983. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, MD, and NORD President Peter L. Saltonstall spoke.
Rare Disease Day 2013
The global theme for Rare Disease Day 2013 (February 28, 2013) was “Rare Disorders Without Borders” but, within the U.S., the observance of Rare Disease Day also included recognition of the 30th anniversary. U.S. Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan Products
On October 7-9, 2013, the 3rd annual conference co-hosted by NORD and DIA in collaboration with FDA, NIH, EURORDIS and Duke University Department of Pediatrics, will focus on the future of rare disease research, regulatory science, patient advocacy and industry/investment challenges under a 30th anniversary banner.
