FDA Event to commemorate the signing of the Orphan Drug Act
On January 7, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will host an event commemorating the signing of the Orphan Drug Act by President Ronald Reagan on January 4, 1983. FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, MD, will speak, as will NORD President Peter L. Saltonstall.
Rare Disease Day 2013
The global theme for Rare Disease Day 2013 (February 28, 2013) will be “Rare Disorders Without Borders” but, within the U.S., the observance of Rare Disease Day will also include recognition of the 30th anniversary. NORD 30th Anniversary Partners in Progress Celebration
NORD’s annual celebration, to take place this year on May 14, 2013, will feature a 30th anniversary theme. Heroes and milestones over 30 years of rare disease progress will be featured. Learn more here.
U.S. Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan Products
In October 2013, the 3rd annual conference co-hosted by NORD and DIA in collaboration with FDA, NIH, EURORDIS and Duke University Department of Pediatrics, will focus on the future of rare disease research, regulatory science, patient advocacy and industry/investment challenges under a 30th anniversary banner.
