The National Dysautonomia Research Foundation (NDRF) is a national, non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to providing information and support to individuals affected by dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system (dysautonomia). The autonomic nervous system controls involuntary (automatic or reflex) activities of the organs, blood vessels, glands, and a variety of tissues in the body. Many disorders may be associated with dysautonomia including Shy-Drager syndrome (multiple system atrophy), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), familial dysautonomia, and neurocardiogenic syncope. The NDRF strives to provide contacts to additional organizations that may be of assistance to individuals with dysautonomia; advocates on behalf of affected individuals in support of ongoing research efforts; supplies news organizations with timely and accurate information on dysautonomia; and raises funds for research. The foundation provides a variety of educational materials including a regular newsletter.
