The Irritable Bowel Information & Support Association of Australia, Inc., (IBIS) is a support group consisting of individuals affected by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and their family members. IBS is a chronic, non-inflammatory condition characterized by abdominal pain and irregular bowel movements including constipation, diarrhea, or both, in the absence of any demonstrable disease. The Irritable Bowel Information & Support Association of Australia includes members from throughout Australia and New Zealand, many of whom belong to IBIS regional support groups that conduct regular meetings with guest speakers. The association is also dedicated to cooperating with the medical profession when appropriate to supply information necessary for IBS research and disseminating information to members and the general public. IBIS members receive regularly updated listings of publications on IBS and a quarterly newsletter that includes articles on the care and control of IBS, meeting listings, and research updates.
