The European League of Stuttering Associations (ELSA) is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to facilitating the exchange of information among organizations, representing the interests of Europeans who stutter. Stuttering is a speech abnormality characterized by repeated hesitation or delay in enunciating words, abnormally prolonged pauses, and repetition of parts of words or entire words. ELSA promotes the exchange of information among European national organizations by conducting and compiling surveys; maintaining a library of the European associations' educational materials; publishing a regular newsletter; and conducting seminars that bring together organizational board members, other interested delegates, and professionals in the field. ELSA also provides advocacy for the interests and needs of affected individuals before the European Council and the European Union.
