The mission of the Hunter's Hope Foundation, Inc., is to foster public awareness of Krabbe disease and other leukodystrophies in order to increase the likelihood of early detection, to provide information and service linkages to families of children with leukodystrophies, to fund research aimed at identifying new therapies, and, ultimately, to seek a cure. Leukodystrophy is the name given to a group of very rare, progressive, metabolic diseases that affect the brain, spinal cord and, often, the peripheral nerves. Krabbe disease is one type of leukodystrophy. A not-for-profit organization, the Hunter's Hope Foundation serves an international audience, providing educational materials for patients, families, health professionals, and the public. It also provides advocacy, referrals, and a registry.
