The Human BSE Foundation (HBSEF) is a registered charity in the UK founded in 1999. Its founders, and those who currently run the organization, are people who have lost a loved one, or are currently nursing a loved one, affected by variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vcjd), the form of mad cow disease that affects humans. HBSEF helps relatives, friends, and caregivers of people with human BSE. It provides: a help line to support patients, a rapid response system to assist in cases of hardship, information to caretakers regarding the needs of patients, an information bank to support lobbying efforts, and education for medical professionals and other care providers.
