The American Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Support is a voluntary organization whose mission is to provide education and support to patients, their families and medical personnel regarding multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 1, MEN type 2a, MEN type 2b. MEN type 1 is a rare genetic disorder in which benign (noncancerous) tumors arise from the cells of various glands of the endocrine system. Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 2 is a rare genetic disorder characterized by an increased risk of developing a specific form of thyroid cancer (medullary thyroid carcinoma) and benign tumors affecting additional glands of the endocrine system. MEN affects the functions of the endocrine glands, resulting in hormonal imbalances which can lead to diabetes and other medical conditions.
