The Simon Foundation for Continence (SFCS) is a non-profit, voluntary organization dedicated to removing the social stigma of this condition and to educating both medical professionals and affected individuals about cure, treatment, and management techniques. Incontinence is a condition in which one loses bladder control. Established in 1982, the foundation has worked to raise public awareness and educate people that incontinence can be cured or managed satisfactorily. Much of its work goes on behind the scenes by foundation staff, attending different programs to educate physicians and nurses about the need of people affected by incontinence. The foundation meets with manufacturers to help develop better incontinence products at lower prices for consumers. Educational materials include a quarterly newsletter entitled "The Informer" and a book entitled "Managing Incontinence: A Guide to Living With the Loss of Bladder Control." The foundation coordinates regular support group meetings, encourages constant patient advocacy, and supports patient, professional, and general education programs.
