The Alpha-1 Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to identifying individuals affected by Alpha-1 and improving the quality of their lives through support, education, advocacy and to encourage participation in research. The Association provides an Alpha-1 Genetic Counselor. The counselor can be reached at 1-800-785-3177. Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (A1AD) is an hereditary disorder characterized by low levels of a protein called alpha-1 antitrypsin (A1AT) which is found in the blood.
