Alzheimer's Disease International is a non-profit umbrella organization consisting of 69 Alzheimer's disease organizations around the world that offer information, support, and resources to affected individuals, family members, and other caregivers. Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative neurological disease that affects memory, cognition, behavior, and emotion. Affected individuals experience progressive deterioration of cognitive processes and memory (dementia), resulting in confusion and disorientation, personality disintegration, memory failure, speech difficulties, agitation and restlessness. Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) was established in 1984 and is in official relations with the World Health Organization. ADI is committed to collaborating with other international organizations with similar interests, stimulating public and political awareness at the national and international levels, and encouraging research. ADI's member organizations provide practical and emotional support to affected individuals and family members; information to affected families, healthcare professionals, and the public; advocacy services on behalf of people with dementia and their families; training for caregivers; and direct services, such as daycare and respite care.
